All the trimmings,

In September, we spent a sunny Sunday afternoon trying to get the out side of the house that last 5% done before winter. OK, several sunny afternoons.

After having the cedar 2x2s ripped to make the false sill, we added side trim and a top shelf and plenty of flashing. They match the old windows in the top floor perfectly. Elsa even helped out with the caulking.
We even got around to siding the gaps and added the bottom band around the west side of the house. Last, but not least, we finished off the front door with oversized trim edge, new siding, and craftsman-style lights. A handcrafted lit bronze doorbell button was added too---thanks mom and dad.

Capeting the Stairs.

That fellow from the last post is Purk and he is actually a real help. While the folks were here we got a ton done including dressing up our stairs for this new civilized life. Andrea picked up a carpet at the new nearby Habitat for Humanity 'ReStore'. Deder did a little 2-in-1 stain on the trim. A few brads and a few beers and voila! Here' a little photostorm of the finished project:

porch

In Preparation for Elsa's Fist B-day, we threw together a welcoming porch for the guests and had our first real function in the new living room.

Sadly, this is the best photo i can find of the porch...

Drywall Part II

After some serious debate, we decided on texture for the walls and ceiling independently (eg. Andrea decided the ceiling, Deder decided on the walls). Luckily, we love what we came out with. the ceiling is a light trowel knockdown and the walls were a light "California" orange peel knockdown. The ceiling give the sense of shapes but is smooth; the walls are textured but without too much depth. sometime you just get lucky i guess.
Andrea gets the credit for the gutsy call of Glossy ceiling paint, it really shines.
Check out our sweet lights too.

Deder spent a day with a rented paint sprayer and got 2 more coats of primer on everything, and we mean EVERYTHING. He only lost a few braincells in the process.
